Mission Month

It’s Mission Month at First Calvary, so, let’s check our Mission efforts, both collectively and individually. The questions are, “What Can God Use You For?” and “What Have You Done Lately?” I hope that throughout this month each disciple of Jesus Christ in the life of this congregation will find something or someone to carry out a Missionary cause for. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we should be willing and ready to give of our resources in time, talents, and treasures.
There are many opportunities for service and giving here at First Calvary this month. I hope that every household will take an active and big part in our “Food Pantry Family Challenge” and bring in the non-perishable items requested each week….hopefully you brought in your dry beans and soup….now for this week, it’s “Pass Da’ PASTA…bring in some pasta and pasta sauce. Your donations mean a lot and help us feed many! This ministry does a great work in the community and we want these efforts to continue. We thank our Food Pantry Coordinators and Volunteers for their tireless efforts each week. Our Food Pantry is typically open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., however, when we don’t have food we can’t serve those in need….so please give! Additionally, we encourage each family to give toiletry and cleaning items for the ACT Ministry Mission Project. It is my prayer that we will never forget that we are held accountable by the Spirit of God to care for the least, left out and the lost. So, let’s do what we can to be “Mission Minded” and make Mission a HABIT. Our Mission mindedness should not only be in words, but in deeds also. I would also like to remind our congregation that during mission month we will contribute to organizations which serve the disenfranchised, unemployed and those in despair. Therefore, we need your contributions as we continue to give to causes that will please God.
Also this month, we will have our Annual “Westend Community Goes Back to School” event on August 17th. All Parents and Students need to be in attendance. We need full sized bookbags for this event….please consider donating one to be given to students during the rally. I know that several of our college students will be leaving to start school soon. It is your Pastor’s prayer that you stay engaged in His presence and power and that you keep the Main Thing the Main Thing! Our Mission Month activities also include Mission Sunday (August 21st), and the JCSU Alumni Concert with our very own FCBC Mass Choir (August 28th). As always, we need your support in our Study Ministries, so please go to Sunday School, come each Wednesday night for Bible Study, and take a lunch break on a Wednesday and come to Noon Day Prayer. Let us always remember that we are AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION!
