Stewardship Month

March is STEWARDSHIP MONTH at First Calvary…and today is ALL TITHERS/PROVE ME SUNDAY! As I was teaching in Bible Study on last Wednesday, it dawned upon me that to be a Faithful Steward one has to first excel in being a Disciple of Christ! This Sunday for now the past 20 plus years we celebrate ALL TITHERS/PROVE ME SUNDAY! It is an opportunity for believers to really stretch out in faith and TITHE!  We have asked all that have never tried GIVING A TENTH of your WEEKLY, MONTHLY OR BI-MONTHLY SALARY TO TRY IT TODAY!  Year after year we’ve asked those who are not regular tithers to try it and watch God prove Himself. The truth is that the 90% that God allows us to keep will always go farther than the 100%. I can testify to that in my own life.

When you are faithful to God, He supplies every need you have.  We have nothing to lose and everything to gain when we trust God with all of our BORROWED TIME, TALENTS AND TREASURES.  As a disciple of Jesus Christ, we are obligated and called to give cheerfully and not grudgingly. Let’s make this month the first financial highlight of our year as we celebrate our Sacrificial Sunday in conjunction with Resurrection Sunday on March 27th.  Adult members are asked to give $150.00 above their tithes and offerings on this day.  Remember it’s not about EQUAL GIVING BUT EQUAL SACRIFICING.

Ministry is on the move in March around here.  Let’s do more than challenge ourselves with our treasures, but let’s do so with our time and talent as well.  Stretch out this month in support of our Food Pantry…bring in a food donation, our FCBC ministries…join and become active today…and have you invited someone to church, Bible Study, Noon Day Prayer or Sunday School?  Do YOU attend?   Whatever the amount is or whatever you are giving, just remember it’s not about EQUAL GIVING BUT EQUAL SACRIFICING. (WOW, I said that again.) Will you accept the challenges with an open mind and a loving heart?  Speaking of a loving heart, Giving is a matter of the Heart! And Speaking of opportunity for ministry, this month, we will highlight our Scouting Ministry with a special event, this afternoon with an Oratorical Contest and Scouting Sunday.  Be on the lookout for more details.  On March 13, 2016 at 4 p.m. we will host the Black Celestial Choral Ensemble of Syracuse University. Please spread the word to support one of our very own, Praycious Gay-Wilson. Also, we will join with the community in support of The Westend Community Foundation, Inc. at the 17th Annual George C. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, March 19th, shot-gun start at 8:30 a.m.  We still need volunteers to lend a hand.  Contact Sister Rebecca Oats (919-536-4201) for details.

Finally, I share these few thoughts.  Stewardship is not a law, it’s an offer. Stewardship is a matter of faith, not a matter of finances. Stewardship honors God.  Once again, stewardship is about TIME, TALENTS, AND TREASURES! Never forget we are AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION!
